Thank you for the post! I've been feeling the need to slow down and edit down for awhile and your reflections are an encouragement to reflect and prioritize this!

The editing is the hardest part, I find. I was recently very inspired listening to director Denis Villenueve talk about how he's not afraid to kill his darlings in the service of the story/movie. It really makes you think hard: "What am I willing to give up in order to bring this thing into being?"

Also my parents totally brought me up saying “Lord willing and the creek don’t rise.” They lived in Jellico, Tennessee for a while. Maybe that’s when they picked it up.

I only heard the phrase when I moved down here, so it may be the mountain folk phenomenon. Now that I've witnessed what the creeks do here during heavy storms, it really is visceral and true!

I’ve been digging into the reading & research side of things as well. It’s so easy to see those things as procrastination or a waste of time, but I’ve found there is time for it too. Current research threads: whole to part thinking and how it might be a reframe for what we call procrastination, the internet / algorithm, and Black Mountain College / Arts & Crafts Movement.

I also relate to how hard it is to let things go. I started a mother artist group locally before COVID put the brakes on our first outing and I just don’t have bandwidth to pick it back up.

I don't know that I've made enough space for the grieving part of letting it all go. I've tried to make myself talk about it to other people, and sometimes I can hold it together, others not.

I'm curious to hear more and what comes from your research threads! Black Mountain College is maybe 2 hours from where I live; the museum in Asheville is fascinating. I need to get out there, and to Penland.

We need to keep each other in line on this "slowing down" thing!
